In our mission statement, “Lake Land College creates and continuously improves an affordable, accessible and effective learning environment for the lifelong educational needs of the diverse community we serve.“ Student learning goals are drawn from our mission statement. Teaching and assessing is the third phase of our assessment cycle, and we use various strategies to support our students in achieving the course outcomes.
“How Do I Teach Effectively?”
Effective teaching ensures a seamless connection between the course/program outcomes for assessing student learning. Competent teachers translate program outcomes into actionable strategies at the course level that enhance student learning. This involves designing various learning activities—such as projects, papers, performances, presentations and exams—that align with the goals established in the act and plan stage.
These learning activities should not only engage students but should also generate assessment data for evaluation in the analyze and report stage.
Assessment data should be used by faculty and staff as a means of gauging how well the curricular or cocurricular experience is structured. During the academic year, we teach, assess and collect data.
We assess course outcomes, program outcomes, and institutional outcomes.
