Lake Land College receives Career and Technical Education Leadership Improvement Grant Posted on February 15, 2018 The Lake Land College Board of Trustees recently accepted a grant from the Illinois Community College Board to develop an apprenticeship program. The Career and Technical Education Leadership Improvement Grant, worth upwards of $40,000, is intended to support the startup of the Lake Land College Apprenticeship Collaboration Project. Lake Land plans to use the grant funding to oversee at least 30 new apprenticeships in both the production technician and the plastics manufacturing fields. There are also plans to recruit students for registered apprenticeships in the finance field. Through these apprenticeships, Lake Land anticipates forming mutual relationships with a minimum of 10 business and industry partners from across the district. “This would not have been possible without the excellent work of Myra Taylor, workforce solutions project coordinator, who developed the project and prepared the proposal,” said Director of Grants and Academic Operations Emily Ramage. Lake Land College awarded America’s Farmers Grow Communities Donation from local Coles County farmer Posted on The Lake Land College Agriculture Division received a $2,500 donation as part of the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. Since the program began in 2010, the Grow Communities program has partnered with farmers to support nonprofit organizations important to them in their local communities. The program has given more than $29 million to farming communities since its inception, including more than $3 million in 2018. Lake Land Agronomy Instructor/Farm Manager Mark Niemerg said the award is a reflection of the entire Agriculture Division. “Our entire division is honored to have received this award and have all the excellent work we do to educate future agriculturists recognized,” Niemerg said. Each year, farmers submit information for a chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit they care about in their community. The organizations reflect the makeup and character of rural America, including emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs, food banks and many others. “Farmers play a pivotal role in rural communities and through their commitment to the Grow Communities program, we are able to provide the monetary support these nonprofit organizations need to make an impact,” said Al Mitchell, Monsanto Fund president. “We’re proud to play a part in helping these rural communities grow and thrive.” The America’s Farmers campaign highlights the importance of modern U.S. Agriculture through communications and community outreach programs that partner with farmers to impact rural America. To learn more about the Grow Communities program, visit the Facebook page at facebook.com/Americasfarmers or americasfarmers.com. The Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Monsanto Company, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the communities where farmers and Monsanto Company employees live and work.
