Students who have taken or are taking dual credit classes with Lake Land College are considered continuing Lake Land College students, not new freshmen. Thus, there are some differences in how to assist this special population of students when starting at Lake Land College.
Lake Land dual credit students do not need to fill out a new admissions application to Lake Land College unless there is a lapse of a year or more between the time that the student’s dual credit classes ended and when the student wants to start at Lake Land College.

They can obtain an unofficial listing of the courses they have taken through Lake Land College by using the Internet Registration and Information System (IRIS). They can request an official copy from the Record’s Office by clicking here.
Through Dual Credit Orientation and Registration sessions, dual credit students have a unique opportunity to register weeks before the new incoming freshmen during special orientation and registration sessions held in April. Students will receive an invitation letter in March of their senior year regarding the process. Unlike new freshmen, dual credit students will not be assigned a specific date and time to come to orientation. They will need to call to make a reservation for the date of their choosing. Prior to attending orientation, all students will need to have test scores on file with us and have officially indicated their intended major by filling out a change of major form.
All new degree or certificate seeking students will attend Orientation. During Orientation, students will register for their first semester as well as learn degree requirements, interpret their test scores, and learn how to register using our Internet Registration and Information System (IRIS). Students will receive an invitation in the mail for their designated Orientation date. Students who have taken dual credit classes through Lake Land College will be invited to special Orientation and Registration sessions which are held about one month earlier.
Some of your advisees may need to be placed in specific math, reading, and/or English courses based upon their ACT or Lake Land College placement test scores. Below is a chart to assist you in reading the scores and placing students correctly. Degree seeking students and/or students planning to enroll in a math or English course must have ACT or Lake Land College placement test scores on file. Students will be mandatorily placed in appropriate courses to achieve success in coursework as determined by placement test scores.
If placement test scores require enrollment in a reading course, students must enroll in the required course for their first semester at Lake Land College.
Lake Land College policy requires all degree seeking students to have reading, English and math placement scores on file. Students planning to enroll in a math or English course are also required to have appropriate placement scores on file. Students will be mandatorily placed in courses based upon placement scores (ACT/COMPASS.)
If a student’s record includes more than one set of scores, the highest scores recorded are used for placement. Certain courses for which a student will not earn credit for graduation are required when indicated by placement scores and major. These courses include: RDG007, RDG009, RDG050, ENG005, ENG007, MAT001, MAT005, MAT006 and MAT 008. Placement in these courses may lengthen time and costs for college.
Retesting prior to enrollment for the first semester offers an opportunity to improve your placement. Students may retest one time per subject area for a fee of $5.00 per subject̅̅ – limit of two sets of Lake Land College placement scores within a four-year period. Call 217-234-5301 to schedule a retest.
To determine placement in reading, English and math, match your score on the ACT or LLC placement test with the appropriate range of scores on the reverse side of this sheet.
For example, follow the chart below from left to right. A student with an ACT reading score of 12-16, an Accuplacer score of 40-54, or a COMPASS score of 51-66 will be placed into RDG009. All students are required to enroll in a reading course unless their placement score is in the “None Required” range.
Use this same process to determine placement in the areas of English and math for those majors that require ENG120 or any MAT course. Not all majors require these courses.
