Meet the faculty
As a student of the program, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with children while you learn. The field experience is designed to give you early exposure to children birth to 8 years old, classroom routines, teaching methods, and management of preschools and daycare facilities. You can learn with diverse student populations and learn child behavior management techniques.
There is the option to transfer to a university to earn a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. Lake Land College has transfer agreements with many universities. Early Childhood Education majors will graduate from Lake Land College at a Level 4 with ECE Gateways to Illinois credentials after paying a small fee and receiving DCFS mandated training provided by experts in the field. Lake Land College partners with Eastern Illinois University Child Resource and Referrals as well as DCFS to provide the best quality program. Some daycare facilities and preschools will pay for the employee to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
The ACT WorkKeys test qualifies students as “highly qualified” in accordance with No Child Left Behind. It is a legally defensible, U.S. Department of Labor-compliant testing system that contains assessments in all three subject areas required by No Child Left Behind. There is a $100 fee for this test. Lake Land College offers a degree as a paraprofessional which makes an individual marketable to most school districts.
