Geospatial Technology (NDP.GIS)

Work with state-of-the-art equipment in the Geospatial Technology Program. This certificate will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop, manage, interpret and implement Geospatial Technology (GIS) as a decision support system. In your classes, you can develop theoretical and practical competencies relating to GIS. Develop a foundational understanding of the industry standard software. By completing this short-term certificate, you will be qualified to seek employment at the technician level.

Many GIS technicians work with businesses that provide surveying, mapping and engineering services. You can also work with state or local government highway departments.

According to www.onetonline.org, the projected growth of this field is 8 – 10%, higher than average.

Hands On Experience

As a student at Lake Land College, you will be able to receive hands-on training in industry standard software and equipment, including:

• GIS database development, editing and map-making
• Introduction to advanced applications of GIS via ArcView and ArcInfo
• Internship utilizing classroom instruction applied to real world GIS projects
