Whether you prefer to be on the air or behind the scenes, the Broadcast Communication program has a position for you! Learn about the process of radio broadcasting and earn experience by commentating live on local sporting events. Or, if you would prefer to operate off screen, work in the mixing booth and learn how to run a professional camera. Lake Land College offers a high-quality learning environment from educators with twenty plus years of experience in broadcasting and teaching.
You will have great opportunities for immediate employment in small market broadcast outlets. Additionally, you will embark on an internship during their final semester at Lake Land, setting you up for real work experience.
You will have the opportunity to stack the Broadcast Announcing, TV Field / Studio Production, and Radio Announcing certificates.
Graduates of this program have gone on to work at many broadcasting establishments such as the Cromwell Media Group, Premier Broadcasting, NExtsar Television, Miller Media Group, Withers Broadcasting, WANT-TV, WICS-TV and WEIU-TV.

Experience is obtained on the college FM radio station, through work in the video studio, by using video field equipment and through the use of audio and video digital editing systems. Media internships are available as well! You will receive hands-on training with much of the same equipment found in today’s broadcast industry. Opportunities include on air on the campus radio station, digital audio and video experience, live and recorded video production, P1 Learning sales training, opportunities for involvement in the Broadcasting Club, field trips to state broadcast conventions and much more.
If you are interested in transferring, a program can be designed for transfer to a university with an emphasis in radio and television. If you complete the program, the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI) General Education Requirements are fulfilled. Classes in the Broadcast Communication major are accepted as an equivalent, general elective in the major, or general elective. Following completion, a student receives an associate in applied science degree with all general education requirements satisfied.
Lake Land program alumni will often transfer to Eastern Illinois University, Lincoln College, Western Illinois University, and many other state schools.
