Professional Development through the Center for Business and Industry provides continuing education to area professionals through seminars on the campus of Lake Land College. Currently, Professional Development holds a license through the Illinois Department of Public Regulation to provide this education to licensed Accountants, Dental Hygienists, Cosmetologists, Nail Technicians, Estheticians, and Massage Therapists. Seminars are held throughout the calendar year to help our professionals meet their individual and group requirements to maintain their licensure. These seminars allow them to keep current in their fields and learn first-hand of new technologies, methods, and procedures, as well as provide the opportunity to network with others in their fields.
As local businesses continue to grow and expand, so does technology, at an enormous rate. Keeping up to date with the technology boom is vital to businesses that want to remain competitive in today’s market. The Center for Business and Industry provides computer software classes as well as business solutions to help.
The Center for Business and Industry coordinates the Paraprofessional Program, which assists a student with the process of applying for an education paraprofessional license (i.e. teacher aid, assistant). The student schedules an initial meeting with the facilitator. During this meeting, students: 1) complete a Lake Land College Application/Intent to Enroll form, 2) receive a checklist outlining the testing process leading to licensure, 3) take a pre-test and receive results, and 4) receive a self-study manual. When the student is ready, they again meet with the facilitator and complete the testing online. Passing test scores are printed off, and the student sends them into the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) for license application with the state of Illinois.
The state of Illinois offers certification for Certified Nurse Assistant/Aide. In partnership with Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), the Center for Business and Industry offers competency testing/evaluation once a month at the Workforce Development Center. Students who have completed the BNA (Basic Nurse Aide) class are eligible to test for their certification.
