Scholarship Opportunities

Lake Land College students have a variety of options for earning scholarships to assist with paying for college.

Foundation Scholarships

Each year, the Lake Land College Foundation awards students more than $600,000 worth of scholarships in a range of amounts up to $5,000.

Applications should be completed annually as scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year will be accepted from November 1, 2023-February 1, 2024 and from August 1-August 31, 2024.

Rural King Annual Scholarship

For More Information

The Rural King Annual Scholarship is available for full-time and part-time students who are active Rural King employees or dependents of an employee with financial need. Priority will be placed on students that live or work in a Rural King County, and demonstrate alignment with Rural King’s core values through community involvement. This new scholarship opportunity was created as a new partnership between Rural King and Lake Land College to support the continued growth and development of Rural King associates and their dependents through providing access to post-secondary educational opportunities.

Presidential Scholarships

Lake Land College is pleased to guarantee a Presidential Scholarship to all eligible in-district high school graduates who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition for up to two years.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who meet one of the following criteria are eligible for the Presidential Scholarship:

Be in the top 15 percent of students in the senior class at the end of 7th or 8th semester; or
Have an ACT composite score of 26 or higher/SAT total score of 1230 or higher.

Qualifying students must also:

Reside in the Lake Land College District at the time of graduation; or
Graduate from a high school located in the Lake Land College District; or
Graduate from a high school serving a portion of the Lake Land College District; and
Enroll full-time the fall semester following graduation.

To Remain Eligible

Presidential Scholars must fulfill certain requirements to remain eligible to continue to receive the award including:

successfully completing a minimum of 12 semester hours each semester; and
obtaining either a 3.25 semester or cumulative GPA every term.

Pathways and GED Presidential Scholarships

The Lake Land College Pathways and GED Programs are eligible to award the Presidential Scholarship to two in-district students from each program who plan to attend Lake Land College the following fall semester. Each student must meet all of the following requirements:

a) successfully complete the Lake Land College Adult Education GED program or at least one semester in the Pathways Program,
b) successfully passed the GED test or pretest with a total score of 680 or higher, and
c) be recommended by the Director of Adult and Alternative Education.

Pathways students using the GED pretest score for qualification must successfully complete the GED test prior to enrollment.

Athletic Scholarships

Lake Land College athletic coaches award scholarships to talented athletes who in their judgment have the outstanding ability to compete on their respective NJCAA team.

To Remain Eligible

Student-athletes must fulfill certain requirements to remain eligible to continue to receive their scholarship including:

successfully completing a minimum of 12 semester hours each semester; and
obtaining a 1.75 grade point average the first semester or term that they receive the Athletic Scholarship and either a 2.00 grade point average or a 2.00 cumulative grade point average every semester or term thereafter.

Livestock Judging Scholarships

The Lake Land College Livestock Judging team coach awards scholarships to students who in his/her judgment have the outstanding ability to perform on the College’s team.

obtaining either a 2.00 semester or cumulative GPA every term.

Private Scholarships

Many community organizations, banks, credit unions, clubs, fraternal orders, businesses and employers sponsor a variety of private scholarships. Students are encouraged to contact these organizations about scholarship opportunities. High school guidance offices are also an excellent resource for scholarship listings, searches and assistance. Many private scholarships are awarded well before the fall semester begins, so students should start the search and application process early and pay close attention to deadlines.

Awarded to an outstanding female full-time undergraduate Eastern Illinois University, or Lake Land College Student having completed the first semester of her sophomore year, and pursuing a degree in ANY FIELD OF STUDY

REQUIREMENTS:

Chosen awardee must be able to attend a Gamma meeting at which time her award will be given. Notification of time, date, and place will be given to the awardee.

APPLICATION CRITERIA:

Applicant must be female and must be a full-time undergraduate student, having completed the first semester of her Sophomore year, and attending either Eastern Illinois University or Lake Land College

Applicant must be an Illinois resident who is a U.S. citizen or legal resident of the U.S

APPLICATIONS SHOULD INCLUDE:

Personal Essay (1 page, typed double spaced) that states the female University or College student’s anticipated degree in her chosen field and future goals
Letters of support (limit 3) (from a university, college, V.P., dean, director, or professor who can attest to the student’s abilities in and outside the classroom, and her ability as a leader among her peers. This should be submitted by the recommender directly to Judith Vaughn at the email above. (Applicant should prepare a list of her abilities, honors, organizations, memberships, extracurricular activities, employment, and other paid or volunteer duties to those she is asking for letters of support)
Resume that indicates all extracurricular activities, organizations, employment and other paid or volunteer duties
Evidence of a university and/or Junior College transcript (Note: Please type in your GPA and number of credit hours thus far on the application form)

APPLICATIONS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES:

Evidence from the applicant’s essay documenting her interest in her chosen field and degree goals.
Evidence of academic achievements, to include awards, activities, church and community involvement.
Level of support of the applicant as indicated in the letter(s) of support

Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers (IAAP)

Each year the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers awards up to five scholarships of at least $2,000. These scholarships are a one-year grant for direct educational expenses. Students may re-apply in subsequent years.

Applications for these scholarships are due January 4, 2025

This scholarship supports students learning and training to be the next generation of professionals in the industry. Applicant must be majoring, or intends to major, in a curriculum which will be compatible with a career in the aggregates industry such as (but not limited to):

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the education of individuals seeking a career in teaching Earth Science or Geology to students or the general public. Applicant must be majoring, or intends to major, in a curriculum which will be compatible with a career in education. Area of study must include the Earth Sciences, (including but not limited to, Earth Science, Geology, Environmental Science, or Natural History Museum Programs.)
