At Lake Land College, we value YOU and your success as a college student. We designed new student orientation to give you the knowledge you need to have a successful start to your first semester as a Lake Land Laker.

Who will participate in new student orientation?

New students with no previous college coursework beyond high school and plan to seek a degree or certificate of 24 or more hours will participate in new student orientation. Lake Land College also requires ACT/SAT or placement test scores on file. Information about requesting scores is available on the ACT and SAT websites. Scores are required for placement in appropriate courses to ensure academic success.

  • For students starting in the fall semester: mid May
  • For students starting in the spring semester: end of November

When do you receive information about new student orientation?

After completing the Application, new students can expect to receive information about orientation and placement testing beginning in March for summer and/or fall enrollment and October for spring enrollment.

How do you complete new student orientation?

Successful completion of new student orientation involves 2 steps:

Step 1: Complete online orientation

During online orientation, you will work through five modules and take a quiz at the end of each module. You will find audio, video and text in all five modules. You do not need any materials to complete online orientation. You just need to work through each module and take the quiz at the end of each one.

During online orientation, you will learn how to:

  • read academic major requirements in our college catalog
  • apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and Lake Land College scholarships
  • learn how and when to pay your bill
  • become involved in student life and campus organizations
  • take advantage of campus services and resources
  • access the Lake Land College academic calendar for important dates

It will take you approximately 45 minutes to complete online orientation.

Step 2:  Schedule your advisement and registration day

This is your last step towards becoming an official Lake Land Laker! After you successfully complete online orientation, you will be immediately directed to schedule an advisement and registration day. During your advisement and registration day, you will

  • meet in person with an academic counselor
  • get advised on first semester coursework
  • register for classes and learn how to navigate your online student portal, the Laker Hub

Your advisement and registration day is important because it is the only way to get registered for your first semester coursework. Again, you will first complete online orientation and then you will be directed to schedule an advisement and registration day.
