The Federal Work Study program is a need-based program that provides opportunities for eligible students to earn part-time wages through on-campus employment. Earnings can be used to help pay for the student’s cost of attendance at Lake Land College.
You must submit a work study application via your Laker Hub account. You will find the application under the Financial Aid menu.
Submit your work study application NOW! Positions are limited, so not all students who apply will be placed in a position. Work study positions are not guaranteed and your award will go unused if you are not placed in a position.
Students are matched with work study positions on campus according to their skills, employment preferences, and the date the application is received. Your application will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Office and forwarded to the appropriate department supervisors for consideration. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a department supervisor.
The standard work study award is $4000, which is the maximum amount that may be earned during the academic year. This amount can be reduced or revoked if at any time the student receives additional resources (scholarships, third party awards, etc.) which would cause the student to exceed his or her financial need. The student and supervisor are responsible for keeping track of how much the student has earned each pay period and the remaining balance.
Students are paid the state minimum wage rate of $14.00 per hour.
Hours worked by the student are reported via an online timesheet and submitted electronically to the appropriate supervisor for approval at the end of each earning period. Students are paid every two weeks. A check is mailed or direct-deposited depending on how the student chooses to be paid.
The student’s work schedule is established by the supervisor and student. Generally, a student will work 8-10 hours a week between classes or on days when the student does not have class. Most positions will have only weekday, daytime hours. There are limited positions with evening and weekend hours.
