Fall 2021 Lake Land College will begin offering a new special admission Fire Science program to assist current firefighters and volunteers in earning Company Fire Officer and Advanced Company Fire Officer certifications. This program is approved by the state fire marshal and will allow these professionals to increase their knowledge and skills as well as advance their careers.
Those interested in applying must first receive a recommendation from their fire chief.
One key advantage of this new program is the flexible format. The in-person classes in the program will take place only on the weekend, including Fridays and Saturdays with a schedule spanning several months to better accommodate the participants’ time frames. The schedule will also have a blended format, with elements of both in-person learning and online work.
The classes will cover the Illinois state objectives as well as experience and real-world scenarios targeted toward local settings. Class participants will even be given the opportunity to train on the equipment in their respective stations, allowing them to gain knowledge and skills specific to their situations.

“The Paramedical Services program is amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone. The instructors always stress the importance of having positive attitude and being the patient’s advocate. This always stuck out to me because I want to save lives and help people.”

“I moved down to this area from the Chicago suburbs and I have really enjoyed the Paramedical Services program. I feel I made the absolute right choice with Lake Land. I pursued Paramedical Services because I love the spontaneity of this field and that each day is different.”
