Students in this academic major gain the programming skills required to program and operate Programmable Logic Controllers or PLCs, the computer control systems used to automate machinery. The 6-hour program is offered online and face-to-face and can be the beginning of an associate degree.
Local demand for employees in central Illinois is high, according to Joe Tillman, renewable energy instructor/coordinator.
PLC is a stand-alone certificate that can be earned online or face-to-face within one semester. All credits earned in this major are applicable to several other degree programs such as Applied Engineering Technology or Mechanical Electrical Technology within the Technology Division.
